The Amateur Softball Association announced today that Tennessee’s Tonya Callahan (Holden, Mo.) was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for her performance during the week of April 14-20. The senior third baseman reached base safely on 16 of 18 occasions for an on-base-percentage of .889.

Callahan hit .667 (4-of-6) with three home runs and seven RBI last week against Ole Miss and No. 11 LSU to raise her SEC-only average to a staggering .500. She was so feared offensively that she was walked 12 times including seven times intentionally. From the second game versus Ole Miss through the first two games of the series with LSU, Callahan reached base on nine consecutive occasions recording three homeruns and six walks.

In an 8-0 (5 inn.) rout of #11 LSU, Callahan went 2-for-2 with two three-run homeruns and a career single-game-tying best six RBIs. The second of those three-run homeruns against LSU was the 50th of her career. She now owns a team-high 15 homeruns and 54 RBIs to go along with a .461 batting average, a .906 slugging percentage and a .619 on-base percentage.
